By: Iron City’s in-house wedding coordinators Michelle Langdon & Ashley GonzalezThe season is here and your family and friends are making plans to celebrate together. 40% of couples get engaged between the months of November and February. Your loved one may not have popped the question yet, but for many couples, engagement is right around the corner. We’ve created a pre-engagement checklist to help you be proactive in your wedding plans, so you can relax and enjoy just being engaged.

1) Drop hints about the bling on the ring.

You’ve had the “marriage talk,” and you may have given your significant other hints about what kind of ring style you love. Ask them to visit some jewelry stores with you around town, or show them some styles you like. This way you’re sure to get the ring that you love almost as much as them!

2) Talk it out together.

It’s good to be on the same page about what you want for you big day. If you know engagement is coming soon, go ahead and start discussing the big picture for your wedding. Some points to consider are: Do you want a big, or small wedding? What’s your budget? Do you want a destination wedding? Is dancing your style, or would you rather have a sit down dinner? Narrowing down what you like now will help guide you once the planning begins.

3) Get educated - find out what you like.

Once you’ve established the big picture of what you and your other half want for your wedding day, it’s time to start educating yourself about what’s out there. Get a Pinterest account and start collecting ideas on your board. Flip through some wedding magazines, and get online on the best wedding websites. Collect all the ideas and details you like in one place, so you can refer to them when the big planning begins.

4) Get the low down from your friends.

Connect with your married friends and ask them about their experiences. Ask them what worked and what didn’t work. What was the best part of the day, or what would they have done differently? Your friends can give you honest insight to help you untie the wedding planning knots before you tie the knot!

5) Do some shopping, window style.

The first things to mark off your planning list are the venue and the dress. Don’t be afraid to make some appointments at different venues before you actually get engaged. Wedding locations tend to book up about a year out, so having an idea about the venue before you are engaged will speed up the planning and help guarantee you get your top choice!
