“This is Halloween - Halloween! Halloween!” as the beings that call Halloweentown home state in the classic film “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. The fun traditions, colorful outfits, and spooky tales that come with the holiday make it one of the most entertaining celebrations to make movies based around. From horror classics ranging from “Halloween” to “Evil Dead” to goofy takes like the Hotel Transylvania series - there is something for everyone when it comes to movies to watch ahead of October 31st. Here are a few of our favorites.

Ernest Scared Stupid

Fun fact: Ernest Scared Stupid is the first movie to give this author nightmares. As a young child, the villainous troll was too terrifying to handle - but this movie is just as silly as the rest of the Ernest series. Jim Varney’s character is joined by the legendary Eartha Kitt in this cinematic masterpiece.

Hocus Pocus (1 & 2)

Tis the year of Hocus Pocus! The 1993 comedy featuring three spooky yet silly witches had a sequel come out this year - which has already broken the Disney+ streaming record for movies and continues to provide quality nostalgia-infused entertainment as we draw nearer to the Halloween holiday.

The Crow

This dark film starring Brandon Lee may not be directly tied to Halloween but the setting and tone of the movie make for a perfect October watch. Haunting imagery and a tale centered around revenge and supernatural happenings is never a bad idea - and The Crow delivers as promised.

The Munsters

The Munsters are one of the funniest families in the history of television, and received the ultimate movie adaptation earlier this year with Rob Zombie on the director’s seat. The 2022 film is full of petty feuds, corny jokes, colorful sets, and everything else that keeps us entertained for an hour and 49 minutes.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Is there a more fun movie to watch during this fall holiday? It would be tough to beat! The Rocky Horror Picture Show brings absurdity to the musical realm as Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Meat Loaf, and more sing their way through one of the most bizarre houses with characters of all sorts making you laugh all the while. We’d highly recommend attending a watch party - but this movie is just as fun at home.
