In our Annual Reader's Poll, you placed your votes for which pizza is the very best in all of Birmingham. Here were the ranking results:

1) Davenport’s

2) Slice

3) Slim’s

4) Pizza Grace

5) Uncle G’s

Here is what a lifelong local has to say about each of these favorite pizza places:

1) Davenport's

A favorite for the Over the Mountain area, I can understand the appeal of Davenport's. For those who grew up on it, I am sure that it gives a very classic, comforting, nostalgic feel. In all honesty, my experience of Davenport's feels not far from that of the lunchroom growing up. The pizza, while classic in many ways, may be just that. Familiar, basic, predictable, reliable. While these are not necessarily negatives, I have not been eager to return.

2) Slice

There is definitely a crowd for Slice. I give them props for their creativity a times, but this is one of the places that you only love if you have a passion for the particular pizza style. Thinner and lighter but often topped generously, this pizza caters to a specific crowd and does it well. It is not a favorite of mine, but I must give credit where credit is due when it comes to providing a range of delicious flavor combos and a light, approachable pizza.

3) Slim's

Slim's is a one of one in the area, which is why I believe it will develop a cult following over time. Dreamed up by the talented Miller Mobley, this pizza shop is much more than a date night destination, it's an aesthetic marvel. Every detail has been developed in a beautiful and cohesive way, and with a solid lineup of pizzas, I think Slim's will do incredibly well and garner a dedicated fan base over the years.

4) Pizza Grace

Pizza Grace is a true standout in my opinion. As someone who prioritizes ingredient quality and classic cooking methods, this pizza is an absolute gem. The beauty of Pizza Grace is that they provide an incredible pizza that you can eat without feeling heavy. They offer something simple, well-executed, and absolutely craveable that seems to stand outside the traditional Southern model.

5) Uncle G's

My introduction to Uncle G's was the same as many—a delicious, deep-dish slice from their truck at Trim Tab. I have to say, while not for the faint of heart, Uncle G's offers something undeniably indulgent. I loved the classic pepperoni pizza I shared for many reasons, but mostly because it perfectly suited the situation. On a weekend, after a drink or two, with great company.

Here are my ranking results:

1) Pizza Grace

2) Slice

3) Slim's

4) Uncle G's

5) Davenport's
