Make sure to hold on to your hat Birmingham, the events around us are coming in at a faster rate than ever before. Concerts, book signings, comedy, and opportunities to check out local art are all around us most days. That is extended this upcoming week as multiple events come to town to make for unique experiences all across the Magic City. Here are a few we plan to check out.
Things Shouldn’t Be So Hard - Book Signing at Harvest Roots (Tuesday)
Doug Baulos is a Birmingham treasure. The artist and bookbinder has also brightened the world of birding and community-centered spaces throughout the city. Baulos has written his own book, Things Shouldn’t Be So Hard. Doug will be having a book signing at Harvest Roots this Tuesday from 4 to 6pm - complete with the opportunity for visitors to bring their favorite drawing and collage materials to customize their pages inside this uniquely Southern workbook.
Vibe Tribe Producer Showcase at The Upstairs at Avondale (Wednesday)
Grammy-nominated musician Luke Crowder is bringing another Producer Showcase to The Upstairs at Avondale this Wednesday night from 6 to 8:30pm! This event is the first under the new banner of Vibe Tribe and will feature Magic City music legends like DJ3C, Byron The Aquarius, KTGOTBEATS, Kit Don’t Miss, and NoH2O. DJ Quosto will be playing music between sets and SheepBlack Designs, Rose the Artist, KB, and CJ’s Jewelry will all have their art, fashion, and other goods on display.
MSPAINT, Inner Peace, Joyboy, Snake Church and Gutter (Saturday)
Two great musical acts will be coming from out of state to rock the Saturn stage with three Birmingham favorites this Saturday night. MSPAINT, who hails from Hattiesburg, and Inner Peace of Indianapolis will be joined by some hardcore favorites from the Magic City in JoyBoy, Snake Church, and Gutter. This will be a fun one.
Rude and True - Iron City Grill (Saturday)
Saturday night at Iron City is going to be a big one! Death Cab for Cutie is playing a sold-out show in the 1,200-person venue, and the fun only continues after their final song. Birmingham treasures Rude & True will be playing an aftershow on the Grill side of the venue after. If you haven’t seen this band, Saturday is a great opportunity to change that!
Wanda Sykes at Lyric Theatre (Sunday)
This is one of our most anticipated events in January - and for good reason. Wanda Sykes coming into town is a comedic evening that you don’t want to miss out on. She will be at The Lyric Theatre making people laugh this Sunday. A world-famous comedian in a beautiful, historic venue? Yes, please!
