Birmingham continues its impressive streak of giving us so many fantastic live concert options and celebrations each week that we have to stay organized not to double-book ourselves! This third week in June is highlighted by an impressive collection of national touring acts, and is further complemented by some wonderful Magic City celebrations. We share a few of our favorites here.

Rojo’s Birthday Party (Wednesday)

Rojo celebrates its 20th birthday this Wednesday! Join them for a toast and some great food. Image from Rojo

Rojo feels like it has always been a fixture in the Birmingham food scene, and the restaurant is finally nearing drinking age! The Latin & American cuisine-centered restaurant is celebrating its 20th birthday on Wednesday, June 15th with some Dixieland jazz on the patio, along with cake and champagne at 6:30pm. Wednesday pub trivia will still take place, but will begin at 7:30pm to make sure there is plenty of time for celebration.

Earthgang at Saturn (Wednesday)

Earthgang is known for their upbeat tunes and entertaining live performances. Many Birminghamians can claim the Dreamville duo’s 2020 Saturn show as one of their last before the pandemic shut everything down, and what a great night it was. We’re thankful to have the opportunity to bounce around to some classic songs once again on a Wednesday night in the Magic City.

Rough Dreams at The Nick (Thursday)

The space punk band Rough Dreams is making a stop at The Nick on Thursday night as a stop on their June tour. The Knoxville, Tennessee band is joined on tour by El Escapado and the Birmingham bill will also feature one of the Magic City’s most exciting bands in Qualifier. There’s nothing like a good punk show at The Nick on a Thursday night - we’d highly recommend checking this concert out.

Fred Armisen at Avondale (Thursday)

Fred Armisen is known for both his comedy and music skills, and will be bringing both to Avondale Brewery this Thursday evening as a part of the entertainer’s “Comedy For Musicians (But Everyone Is Welcome)” tour. The SNL legend has built quite the reputation with this most recent show, and it will be exciting to see it live in Birmingham. Armisen is joined on this tour by the band Def Rain, which should make for a wonderful night out.

Avril Lavigne and MGK at The BJCC (Saturday)

Avril Lavigne, Machine Gun Kelly, and Iann Dior are quite the lineup for a weekend show in Birmingham. Each musician is bringing their own take on the pop-punk (with a blend of hip-hop for some) sound to The BJCC for an electrifying Saturday night show. These are three acts that know how to entertain, and it is no small sign of the times that they chose the Magic City to rock out with on a Saturday night.

Steel City Smooth Jazz Festival (Saturday & Sunday)

One look at this year’s lineup lets you know the Steel City Jazz Festival means serious business with its return. Image from SCJF.

Lovers of jazz, R&B, and good live music have been waiting in eager anticipation for the return of the Steel City Jazz Festival, and the 2022 lineup only added to the excitement! Fortunately we don’t have to wait much longer to hear the magnificent music of The Isley Brothers, Musiq Soulchild, Kirk Whalum, and 20 of the finest, award-winning musicians you’ll find in one setting all year. The festival takes place at Linn Park and will also include a fashion segment featuring Project Runway star Edmond Newton.

High Tea at Little London (Sunday)

The good people at The Flourish and Little London have been partnering to create some of the finest events in the Magic City, and this entertainment streak is bound to continue with this Sunday’s edition of their High Tea at Little London series, which features two poets. Daan Rana and J. Lyte are sure to make the colorful and comfy atmosphere of Birmingham, Alabama’s most cheerful pub feel like a euphoric auditory experience. We’d recommend checking it out!

As you see, there are many great options for a good time in the Magic City this week. We hope you’re able to make some good memories and fun moments while exploring the town!
