Dr. Mark Yanosky is a Board Certified Orthodontist and his practice was named one of the best in Birmingham by About Town readers.

It seems like kids are getting braces at younger ages than ever before. What’s the best age to visit the orthodontist?

We find that the kids that get the best results have been followed from a younger age—say 7 and older. The VAST majority of the time, no actual treatment is needed until most or all of the baby teeth have fallen out around age 12 on average. For some, early intervention is necessary to avoid or limit more challenging treatment in the future.

I know many adults who are also being treated these days…are you seeing this in your practice?

Yes. The fastest segment of growth in the orthodontic market seems to be adult treatment. We are now literally seeing patients as young as elementary school all the way up to patients in their 60s, 70s and even 80s! Clear aligner treatment has really done a nice job of giving patients an option where they don’t want traditional or even “clear” braces glued to their teeth.

What do you enjoy most about your practice?

The people…plain and simple. We have a great team that I’m proud of. It’s also a blast to take care of so many patients of different backgrounds and ages. We are honored to care for so many of them. Also the community—we pride ourselves on giving back to the community in every way possible.
