Birmingham has steadily built a reputation as one of the nation’s top food cities, and the expansion of many perennial favorites across the Magic City restaurant scene makes us feel like things are only going to get tastier! There are plenty of exciting projects coming to town, and these are some of our favorites.

Saw’s Avondale

Saw's Avondale has a spacious, shiny new look - and bar!

Let’s start with a Birmingham classic! Saw’s is a barbeque staple in Birmingham, with many claiming that the Avondale location is the most superior. Those who haven’t stepped inside in recent months may be pleasantly surprised at how much room is available these days in this normally famously crowded restaurant. Even more shocking--a new bar!

“Soul Punch” is one of many new specialty drinks crafted to pair well with Saw’s smokey meats and sides. Their Bloody Mary even includes the house barbeque sauce, which is an absolutely delicious addition. The restaurant has also started hosting “Video Game Nights” every Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m., featuring competitive Xbox games like Rocket League, Black Ops, and more (and yes, they give rewards!).

Neighbors

Neighbors Ice Cream is coming to West Homewood in early 2021!

West Homewood is going to get a lot sweeter in early 2021, as a group of Homewood families has come together to bring Neighbors, a new ice cream and sweets shop to the area! Carlos Alemán, one of the partners behind this fun project, explained that the idea, led by Michael Eady, came from a group of friends asking the question “How can we do something to serve our neighborhood?”

The answer--provide a family hang out space that had been missing since the closure of Magic City Sweet Ice, and give people a comfort food that they can enjoy there or even take on the go to nearby Patriot Park.

Morro’s Wings and Things

Taco Morro Loco's latest expansion - Morro's Wings and Things

Taco Morro Loco has been serving tacos and more to the people of Birmingham for a few years now, through both their brick-and-mortar Avondale location and food truck (often seen parked across the street from Cahaba Brewing). They are expanding even further now with the opening of Morro’s Wings & Things on 6th Ave. S.

This location’s menu includes past favorites, in addition to dozens of new items that are sure to make your stomach rumble with anticipation. Philly cheese steaks, wings, pork chops, shrimp, bacon cheeseburgers, and more all participate in this extensive menu that is equally affordable. We encourage you to check it out!

Fever’s Grill and Juice Bar

Fever's Juice Bar and Grill features an art park outside

Having a hard time finding scrumptious vegan food around the city? Or just craving that favor explosion that makes your tastebuds flip with glee? Either of these needs can be satisfied by visiting the wonderful people at Fever’s Grill and Juice Bar. You'll even find a cool art park outside! Vegan pizza, fried cauliflower “wings” and more are all featured on this very healthy, very delicious menu.
