Dermatology & Laser of Alabama

As a board certified dermatologist, Dr. Sarah Sawyer is passionate about helping people feel confident in their skin. After completing her residency at UAB and a specialized fellowship in laser and cosmetic procedures, she founded Dermatology & Laser of Alabama in 2007 as a place where artistry meets cutting-edge expertise. In 2015, Dr. Sawyer completed an integrative medicine fellowship through the University of Arizona with Andrew Weil, MD. She prioritizes a holistic treatment plan, emphasizing natural-looking results and patient education about whole body health and its relationship to the skin.
Dr. Marilyn Zabielinski has always loved science and beauty. Her expertise is built upon a solid foundation of education and training. Growing up in South Florida and graduating from Cornell University, she returned to her roots at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Z’s dermatology training was completed at the University of Cincinnati. This background gave her a nuanced approach to aesthetics, prioritizing natural-looking results tailored to the patient’s unique features.
Current Trends: (Dr. Sawyer)- My goal is to help patients navigate the noise from social media trends, leading so many people to bad outcomes and wasted money. I’m excited about the longevity and healthy aging trend- using less “filler” and more collagen stimulators, peptides and other combinations - a wider range of treatments and procedures for a more balanced approach to anti-aging. (Dr. Z)- Aesthetics are trending toward a more natural appearance that emphasizes pro-aging; our best skin at any age and taking care of health with supplements and the right foods, which also affects aesthetic results and function. It’s a more wholesome approach to beauty - I’m loving it and right on board! The new “it” look is healthy-looking skin and injectables strategically placed to produce collagen and improve skin, while respecting natural shadows, lines and curves.
Most Rewarding Aspect of Practice: We love to see patients shine with confidence and make them laugh, leaving with a smile on their face. We believe in a comprehensive and holistic approach, combining cosmetic procedures with personalized skincare. It’s so empowering to help others look and feel beautiful - on the inside and out!
Motivation: (Dr. Sawyer)- I started my practice as a young mother, and my husband joined me to manage our office a short time later. My husband is an incredibly positive, motivating factor for me and our entire team here at DLA! (Dr. Z)- I’m motivated by the support of my family - moving from Miami to Birmingham and starting new is no easy task, but they have jumped in wholeheartedly! And the community here has been so welcoming.

Cohn Plastic Surgery

Al Cohn is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has been in active clinical practice in Birmingham for almost two decades. Originally from Columbus, GA, he has been fortunate to have been trained at some of the most renown academic hospitals in the country and by some of the world’s most gifted plastic surgery educators. Following a plastic surgery residency at The University of Chicago Hospital, he came to Birmingham for an additional year of subspecialty training in complex breast reconstruction and aesthetic surgery under the tutelage and instruction of his mentor and friend, Dr. Jim Grotting.
Dr. Cohn is a past president of the Alabama Society of Plastic Surgeons and is honored to actively serve as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery with UAB Hospital and participate in the training of future plastic surgeons. He volunteers as a clinical instructor for PA students at Samford and UAB and is a member of several notable professional societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Aesthetic Society, and the Southeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Current Trends: National trends point towards increased numbers of women choosing to downsize and/or remove their breast implants for a smaller, more lifted shape and the trend towards more of a “ballet body” than seen in prior years. Additionally, body-contouring to manage excessive skin redundancy following significant weight-loss is occurring with an increased frequency as more of the population deals with this concern.
Most Rewarding Aspect of Practice: Unquestionably, the most rewarding aspect of our practice is the many long-term relationships made with our patients and the opportunity to serve as a helpful force in the community with which we live. It is extremely humbling to have a patient place their trust in our practice, and we are consistently grateful for the ability to provide care to so many people that we come to consider as life-long friends.
Motivation: I am inspired and motivated by my family. I come from a long line of individuals who are focused on the betterment of their community and are committed to a life focused on service to others. My beautiful wife and three loving daughters serve as driving motivation for a career focused on respect for all women (and individuals). My family serves as an inspiration to improve the lives of each patient we care for, while championing their individual freedom of choice and ability to participate knowledgeably in their health decisions.

Current Trends: Advancements in regenerative medicine are making waves in anti-aging treatments that go beyond the surface of the skin to target the cells within and reverse the signs of aging. Stem Cell Procedures, Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections, Peptides, Exosome Treatments, Growth Factors, Collagen Stimulators are a handful of regenerative skincare treatments I expect to see gain more popularity in 2025:
Most Rewarding Aspect of Practice: The ability to directly improve patients’ lives and self-esteem, coupled with the opportunity to build long-term relationships and trust with patients. As a dermatologist, I can see immediate and tangible results from treatments, whether it’s resolving a skin condition, improving appearance, or preventing skin cancer. Being a dermatologist is a diverse and intellectually stimulating field that encompasses a wide range of skin conditions, from medical to cosmetic and it allows me the ability to help advance our field by performing research and teaching. The field of dermatology is constantly evolving, with new technologies and treatments emerging regularly, keeping me at the forefront of innovation.
Motivation: I have two beautiful children, and our motto is “We work hard, we play hard.” I have tried to instill work ethic into my children, but I also think it’s important to enjoy free time and travel. Birmingham Orthodontics

Dr. Katelyn Feinberg completed her undergraduate studies at Duke University. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, Certificate in Orthodontics, and Master of Science degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
After residency, Feinberg joined the amazing team of doctors at Birmingham Orthodontics. Birmingham Orthodontics has been serving the community since 1993. They have offices in Hoover, Greystone, Alabaster, Trussville and Chelsea.
Current Trends: “When I was growing up, I dreaded getting those messy impressions taken of my teeth, which were a necessary evil for orthodontic treatment. While many people think these impressions are still required, they are actually a thing of the past. Birmingham Orthodontics is a completely digital practice, meaning that we leverage digital technologies to enhance our patient experience. This includes using digital scanners for Invisalign treatment and to fabricate our appliances and retainers. In other words, our patients do not have to experience the messy impressions that I dreaded as a child, which makes for a cleaner, quicker, and more enjoyable experience at the orthodontist.”
Most Rewarding Aspect of Practice: “Nothing compares to the day that the braces come off or the Invisalign treatment is finished. Giving someone a smile they love will always be the best part of my job.”
Achievements: While at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Feinberg was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society and received several honors, including the American Association of Orthodontists Award for Exceptional Interest in the Development of the Oro-Facial Complex and the Quintessence Award. Dr. Feinberg published her original research in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics. She maintains active memberships with the American Association of Orthodontists and the Southern Association of Orthodontics.

Dr. Raggio proudly offers Birmingham the latest advancements in Facial Plastic Surgery, including his signature extended deep plane facelift/necklift with fat grafting, and Turkish-influenced structural rhinoplasty.
Current Trends: Facial Plastic Surgery has come a long way—even just in the past few years. Here in Birmingham, we’re proud to be leading the charge in the latest techniques for facelifts and rhinoplasty. At Raggio MD, our approach to facial rejuvenation centers on Dr. Raggio’s signature facelift/necklift, a preservation extended deep plane approach, which lifts and repositions deeper tissues for natural, long-lasting results. For rhinoplasty, we focus on a Turkish-influenced structural technique that preserves and reshapes native cartilage—refining both form and function with precision and purpose.
Most Rewarding Aspect of Practice: The most rewarding part of what I do? It’s seeing that moment when a patient looks in the mirror and finally sees themselves—just more refreshed, more confident, more at ease. Whether it’s a rhinoplasty that brings harmony to their facial features or a facelift/necklift that helps them feel vibrant again, it’s never just about the surgery. It’s about helping people feel like the best version of themselves. That kind of transformation—it never gets old.
Motivation: My wife, Kristin, and our four kids absolutely are a big part of what drives me. She’s not only my partner in life but also in the practice—running the show as a nurse and practice manager. Having a family has shaped how we’ve built Raggio MD: personal, intentional, and rooted in care.

Kasey Davis Dentistry

Dr. Kasey Davis graduated from UAB School of Dentistry in 2008 and quickly discovered her passion for comprehensive facial aesthetics. She pursued advanced training through the American Academy of Facial Aesthetics and the French Academy of Advanced Aesthetics, learning under the world-renowned Sandy Hunt. Dr. Davis loves providing laser treatments, chemical peels, and an exclusive provider of the ZO Skin Health line. “I take a warm, comprehensive approach—always starting with what matters most to my patient, then thoughtfully building a personalized plan that fits their goals and budget.”
Current Trends: One exciting innovation I’ve embraced is treating acne using a combination of microneedling, botulinum toxin, and even diluted insulin applied directly to the skin. As someone who has personally struggled with acne, I know how deeply it can affect confidence. The research behind these techniques is truly compelling, and the results I’m seeing in my practice are remarkable. It’s a powerful way to support both skin health and emotional well-being in one comprehensive treatment.
Most Rewarding Aspect of Practice: The most rewarding part of my practice is seeing the smile on my patient’s face—whether I’m restoring confidence through a dental transformation, clearing acne that’s caused years of embarrassment, brightening skin, or straightening teeth that someone’s hidden for years. Each case is deeply personal, and it’s an honor to be trusted with that journey. Helping people feel more comfortable in their own skin and truly love their reflection is the greatest gift of all.
Motivation: At the heart of what I do is a deep sense of calling. I believe God gave me the gifts and ability to serve others, and I find true joy in helping people feel their best. After 17 years, I’m still passionate about my work. I want my children to see that it’s possible to build a career you genuinely love—that success isn’t measured by money or status, but by purpose, impact, and lasting fulfillment.

Gold Humanism Honor Society, which recognizes physicians who are exemplars of compassionate patient care and who serve as role models, mentors, and leaders in medicine.
Current Trends: One of the newest trends in breast surgery, is the internal brawl. This is where a piece of mesh is used as a sling that helps support the implant to keep shape over a long period of time. Many times this mesh gets fully absorbed by your body so there is no synthetic mesh left behind. Also, Brazilian butt lifts continue to be a trend that is discussed widely in the news and message boards. Fat transfer has been around for quite some time, however, new techniques make this procedure safer and safer every year. When performed correctly by board certified plastic surgeon it is extremely safe technique that can enhance many different features including the breast, the buttocks, or other asymmetric regions.
Most Rewarding Aspect of Practice: The most rewarding aspect of our practices is helping our massive weight loss body contouring patients. We have numerous patients who have lost a large amount of weight via various methods, but are left with a large amount of skin that is only able to be removed surgically. Being a part of these patients transformation journey as they are finally able to feel like themselves again is extraordinarily rewarding
Motivation: I’m continually motivated by my family, friends and my patients. Making a trans-formative difference in the lives of my patients is what I love the most. Instilling confidence and bringing out the best in each one is why I do what I do.

Rousso Adams Facial Plastic Surgery Clinic

Dr. Daniel Rousso and Dr. Austin Adams are double board-certified facial plastic surgeons specializing exclusively in aesthetic and reconstructive procedures of the face, head, and neck. Dr. Rousso brings decades of experience and is a recognized educator in the field. Dr. Adams trained at Vanderbilt and completed his fellowship under Dr. Rousso. Together, they offer advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments, including rhinoplasty, facelifts, and hair restoration, delivering natural-looking results with a personalized, patient-centered approach.
Current Trends: A notable trend in facial aesthetics is the shift from fillers to facelifts, even among younger patients aged 35–55. This change is driven by “filler fatigue” and a desire for longer-lasting, natural results. Deep plane facelifts are gaining popularity for their ability to rejuvenate without an overdone appearance. Additionally, facial fat grafting is replacing traditional fillers, offering subtle volume restoration and collagen stimulation. These innovations provide more durable, refined outcomes for those seeking facial rejuvenation.
Most Rewarding Aspect of Practice: The most rewarding part of our practice is helping patients become the best version of themselves-confident, refreshed, and naturally beautiful. It’s especially meaningful that over 50% of our patients travel from out of state. We love welcoming them into our hidden gem of a city and showing off everything that makes it special. There’s something powerful about combining transformation with hospitality, and we’re proud to offer both at the highest level.
Motivation: Family is a strong source of motivation for both of us. Watching the people we love handle life’s changes with strength and resilience shapes the way we care for our patients. We’re also proud to be deeply connected to this city-it’s where we’ve built our lives, our families, and our careers. Welcoming patients from all over the country and sharing what makes this place so special is something we both truly value.
