When businesswoman and mother of three, Ashley Spann Kaple, decided to renovate her home on Pump House Road, she knew exactly where to start - her friend of 20 years, Vance Ballard of B&B Construction.  Knowing that Vance would provide the kind of attention and customer care that B&B is known for, made a project of this scale achievable for Ashley.  Ballard has been able to make a boutique business of renovating larger houses and restoring historic homes to their former glory.  “I just knew that Vance would give this home the attention that it deserves,” says Ashley.

“The original owners did a wonderful job building the house with a distinct European influence. From the first time I walked into the foyer and saw the cupola and spiral, iron staircase I was drawn to the home,” recalls Ashley.  And indeed, the foyer provides a stunning entrance to a home that is both grand in scale but is also comfortable and welcoming.  The great room, with its large beams, imported chandelier, and refinished bar, has been the entertaining heart of the house with baby showers, cocktail hours, and parties over the years. From the great room, guests can easily move to an expansive back porch and yard complete with a pool.  “My girls love the pool and have turned the column planters into diving boards!”

For Ashley, the home also allows her to balance her work and family life.  Perhaps an unexpected choice, one of her favorite rooms is her home office off of the kitchen.  “In everyday life, it’s where I start my day.  It allows me to constantly go back and forth between being a mom, while my girls are in the kitchen, to being a business owner.  It’s all a balance.”
