College football season is in its second week, and there are some great matchups to take in. Alabama is playing a fun matchup in Texas at 11am. Samford is playing at fellow Bulldog Georgia’s home turf, UAB is playing at Liberty at 5pm, and San Jose State will be in Auburn at 6pm. There are a few other Top 25 matchups occurring to ensure that it’s a great day of football from morning to midnight. Whether you are watching with family or having a viewing party at your house, it’s great to have good food along for the festivities. Fortunately for us Birminghamians, we have top-tier options when it comes to teams to cheer for and delicious food to enjoy. Here are a few of our favorites.

Eugene’s

Hot chicken, fries, a cool drink, and a good game on TV. Sounds like the perfect Saturday. This image and cover image from Eugene’s

What goes better with football than a bucket of wings and some amazing sides? Eugene’s Hot Chicken provides all that and more with their fantastic menu that blends Southern favorites with every degree of heat (or lack of) you could want. The Birmingham favorite is great for Saturdays, and you can easily place your order ahead of time!

Saw’s

Many of the Saw’s locations - like this one in Avondale - are great places to watch the game too. Image from Saw’s Soul Kitchen

There are multiple Saw’s locations throughout the Birmingham area, each with its own unique take on food and atmosphere. All of them provide good Southern-style cooking that goes great with watching a football game! Everything from boiled peanuts to burgers to greens plates is found at these wonderful Magic City establishments.

Black Market

If you’re looking for a good spot to watch the game, Black Market could be for you. Image from Black Market

Burgers and wings are definitely on the Mount Rushmore of football-watching foods, and Black Market delivers many flavorful options for both. You can grab your plates to go or stay and watch Alabama’s lunchtime game on one of the restaurant’s many television screens. Either way, it’s going to be a good experience.

Uncle G’s Pizza

A little pizza plus a little football equals a whole lot of fun. Basic Alabama math. Image from Uncle G’s

Pizza is another great food to inhale while watching the old sports game, and Uncle G’s has some of the best in Birmingham. The added bonus on Saturdays (and many days of the week) is the food truck’s prime location at Trim Tab Brewing. Order a pizza, enjoy a beer, and rehearse your college team’s victory song if you got some time to spare.

Fat Charles

Fat Charles has quickly become stuff of legend in the Magic City. I’ve seen a line form from thin air when the truck pulled up, then went home and sat in amazement for multiple hours - but I made sure to order some birria tacos first. The truck was in Tuscaloosa last weekend, but will be serving its greatness at Birmingham Artwalk today.

Whatever you get and whoever you are rooting for, Birmingham’s food scene is always here to lend a hand.
