As the seasons change and cooler weather arrives, many people’s skin begins to get drier – among other issues. About Town talked to experts at Village Dermatology about how to protect our skin as we get deeper into fall and what treatments top the list for most requested.

About Town: What are some skincare tips for fall?

Village Dermatology: Fall is definitely a time for transition, and skincare is no exception. A lot of patients start retinol back up or increase their strength since they are not in the sun as much. People are also looking for creamier moisturizers and body creams to combat the drier air. For treatments, fall is definitely laser season in our world. Many of our laser procedures require limited sun exposure before and after treatment so we always recommend getting laser treatments in the fall and winter, e.g. IPL/BBL photorejuvenation, laser hair removal, and Halo laser resurfacing.

What are the most requested procedures or treatments you see from patients?

Our most requested procedure is Botox. Our patients absolutely love this treatment because it effectively smooths fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, on the forehead, between the brows, and more. It’s a great way to look refreshed or less tired, and many patients report that it lifts their mood and they feel “happier.” In addition to smoothing wrinkles, Botox lip flips have also become more popular for those who want a subtle lip enhancement without lip filler. Botox is such a safe and versatile treatment that can be applied in cosmetic and therapeutic ways. Plus, the appointment is also super quick and easy with no downtime, so our Walk In Botox Clinic during the lunch hour is very popular.

What new treatments are you offering?

We have a new injectable treatment for cellulite called Qwo. This treatment is such a game-changer because other treatments and topical products may only improve the appearance of cellulite, but Qwo targets the root causes of cellulite happening underneath the skin. Qwo works by releasing the fibrous bands that pull down on the skin and create a lumpy appearance, while also redistributing fat cells and stimulating the growth of new collagen. This treatment is available for the thigh or buttock area, and many of our patients are surprised how little pain or discomfort they experience during the treatment! Visible results can be seen in 10 weeks after a series of three treatments spaced 3 weeks apart, and results are long-lasting!

Also, we recently brought on Dr. Rachel Pflederer to our team. Dr. Pflederer is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon and can excise skin cancers. Mohs surgery is a new and exciting endeavor for our practice as we are now able to diagnose and remove skin cancers all in one location versus referring out to another office. This makes it so much easier and more convenient for the patient.
