Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and the Magic City is ready to celebrate! Few holidays give us the opportunity to set aside a specific time to cherish and honor someone as special as the moms and mother figures in our lives. We want to show love to those who care for us every day, but it’s especially nice to have a yearly cheering event for moms across the world. There are many ways to help the mothers in your life feel your gratitude this weekend. Here are a few.

Mom’s with Mom

If anyone knows how to celebrate mothers, it’s Mom’s. This fine watering hole, which recently celebrated its fifth year, is a good time in addition to being somewhat of a tribute to Birmingham mothers. The picture frames on the wall come from the patrons of the bar. One can quickly conclude that it’s only right to hang out at Mom’s on Mother’s Day. Saturday features a local market from 12 to 6pm and an anniversary Prom Night themed celebration beginning at 7pm.

Mother’s Day Market

Mom’s isn’t the only market that can be enjoyed this weekend. Cahaba Brewing is hosting a Mother’s Day Market on Saturday from noon to 5pm, which can be the perfect time to hang out with any motherly figures or buy them gifts from one of the dozens of local vendors. The Market at Pepper Place will also be happening on Saturday for another fun market experience.

Barons Game

What’s more fun and relaxing on a Sunday afternoon than rooting for the home team while eating peanuts and Cracker Jacks at the old baseball game? Enjoying all of this during Family Day with the Birmingham Barons on Mother’s Day! Kids run the bases after the game and there will be a special “Mom’s Catch On The Field” moment.

Get Outside

We talk about it all the time - but Alabama is surrounded by some beautiful natural scenery, which compliments a nice cityscape. There are dozens of outdoor options to choose from - The Vulcan, Rotary Trail, Ruffner, Oak Mountain, or any of the many breweries that call Birmingham home. Getting some outdoor time is always a good way to enjoy time with loved ones.

At the end of the day, all that matters is that those you love know how much you love them. Laugh a little, eat a little, relax a little, and enjoy the celebration. We love you, moms!

I would also like to give a special thank you to my mom, Nancy Majors. Life naturally comes with bumps and curves but it’s a whole lot easier with such a caring, loving, and supportive mom looking after our whole family - and any friend or neighbor who wanted to come in for cookies after school as well! I’m thankful for your constant love and enjoy seeing the new roles and passions you continue to find.
