Birmingham continues to impress with the many fun events the city sees each week, and this first week of May is no exception. Celebrations like Cinco De Mayo join music video filmings, local markets, and lots of great music events to provide a wide selection of options for Magic City residents looking to have a night on the town. Here are a few of our favorites.

May the 4th Be With You Bingo (Wednesday)

One of the most important days of the year takes place this week, as the cheeky “May the 4th Be With You” holiday takes place this Wednesday! The event falls on Cahaba Brewing’s weekly charity bingo night, so they will be having a special Star Wars-themed night with the proceeds benefiting Do Dah Day. The event begins at 7pm, and don’t forget about the great food found at The Current for dinner.

Gringo De Mayo with Latinos Con Onda (Thursday)

Fresh off a fun beer collaboration, Latinos Con Onda and Ghost Train Brewing are partnering again to bring more fun times to the people of Birmingham with their Gringo De Mayo celebration this Thursday at the original location. This fun event features live rock and roll from ETER4, Latin beats from the legendary Suaze, and sets from Latinos Con Onda DJs Nano (playing Cumbia Futurista) and Mamalon (Corridos Tumbados with St. Joel). This $10 event is practically an all-day affair, with doors opening at 2pm and the show beginning at 3pm. An impressive list of food vendors including Happy Fruit Truck, Pupuseria Lupita, and Chilitos Bham will be on-hand as well, so come hungry.

Punk Rock Night (Friday)

Art By Burx has been creating some rather impressive monthly musical events in the Magic City, and Punk Rock Night at True Story Brewing is no exception. On the first Friday of every month, punk music and art lovers of all ages convene at this great location to hear some angsty tunes, and the May event is sure to be a good one. Local favorite Kenan Blair will be playing an acoustic set, and hardcore punks No Offense will be coming from LaFayette, Georgia to rock the house. This event is only $5, which makes for quite the affordable and fun night out.

Hip-Hop Art Show #1 (Saturday)

The team behind Punk Rock Night returns to True Story Brewing the very next day for the first installment of the Hip-Hop Art Show. This event series is planned to feature the greatness that is Birmingham and Southeastern hip-hop, and this weekend’s inaugural event makes it clear that they mean business. The impressive lineup features C.A.m Inz, G.I. Magus, Phrasure (who helped put the event together), and Cutt Dogg. One of Birmingham’s favorite musicians and comedy co-hosts in DJ Gap will be playing music throughout the night as well. This event features local artists and food, which always makes for a great time when combined with good music.

Trussville Makers Market (Sunday)

The Trussville Makers Market is a great way to support local this weekend! Image from Trussville Makers Market

The Trussville entertainment district has been one of the most impressive areas of growth in the Birmingham outskirts over the last couple of years, with Ferus Artisan Ales being a huge contributor to this development. The fun continues this Sunday, as this free market brings local creatives and local supporters together in the fun location from 11am to 4pm.

No matter what you choose to do this week, it’s sure to be a good week of music, friends, charity, and laughs in the Magic City.
