There’s a little bit of something for every type of person in Birmingham. Any given week presents the opportunity to enjoy great food, music, sports, and all sorts of joyous moments. April 2023 has been a whirlwind of excitement in all the above categories, and continues to do so this week. Here are a few of the events we are most looking forward to.

Vibe Tribe Producer Showcase: April at The Upstairs at Avondale (Wednesday)

One of the most fun events of each month is returning to The Upstairs at Avondale this Wednesday evening. Luke Crowder brings together some of the city’s best producers each month in an event that also features art, fashion, and lots of creatives connecting. This month’s music lineup features Suaze, World Premier, Dreux Kaine, and Classified Alias

Birmingham Stallions vs. New Jersey Generals at Protective Stadium (Saturday)

The champions are back! Birmingham’s cherished USFL team - the Stallions - is making a triumphant return to Protective Stadium to take on the New Jersey Generals this Saturday at 6:30pm. The Magic City’s football heroes had a very impressive inaugural season and it’ll be exciting to watch opposing teams try to throw the Stallions off their A-game.

REO Speedwagon at the Alabama Theatre (Saturday)

One of our most anticipated shows in April takes place this Saturday evening as the legendary rock group REO Speedwagon comes to the Alabama Theatre. Countless hits like “Take It On The Run”, “Keep On Loving You”, “Can’t Fight This Feeling”, and many more are sure to be played. Be sure to grab your tickets and join in on this good time.

Southern Music Research Center Launch Party at Elysian Gardens (Saturday)

Burgin Mathews has always had a passion for both history and music, and continues to use these initial loves to benefit the lives of others. This time it takes shape in the Southern Music Research Center, a nonprofit that helps preserve and record music history - much of which is found in our beloved Alabama. The launch party takes place at Elysian Gardens this Saturday from 6 to 9pm. There will be a lot of live music from Birmingham favorites like Sarah Lee Langford, Will Stewart, DuJour, and The Phasing Octopus along with a short film series screening and the celebration of the organization’s new website.

Null & Bulging Collaborative Tape Release Show at Saturn (Sunday)

Imagine getting to be there when Reese’s first combined peanut butter and chocolate in a way only they can. Or being on set when the Power Rangers fought alongside the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Rarely can the public so freely participate in historical collaborations but Birminghamians get the chance on Sunday night at Saturn as Null and Bulging host a night of great music to celebrate the release of their collaborative tape.
